So our new addition came home on Saturday.
She is being much enjoyed by all.
Now the gratuitous puppy pics.

Confused Shooter at Gun Counter
So I walk into academy trying to track down a set of brass punches so I can take down the action on my shotty.
Standing at the counter is a young Asian girl I'd say early twenties. She is talking to the middle age salesman who looks lost. They are looking at stubby .38's.
He's expecting her to know something and she is overwhelmed.
He is pushing the S&W air weight.
I go to ask if they have what I'm looking for and end up injecting myself, for better or worse into their conversation.
I ask her if this is her first gun, answer is yes. Then I ask if she's shot before, surprisingly she answered yes. I ask her what did she shoot and she said a .38 like these and she liked it.
I asked if she was thinking about a carry permit and she said no.
I suggested a 4" barrel over the snubby but she was dead set on it.
I explained that the lighter the gun the more kick or recoil it will have.
I think she decided on the steel Taurus over the air weight. She had liked it better from the start.
During the course of conversation I also explained that she needed to practice alot because small gun = harder to shoot.
We also discussed that warning shots are a bad idea and don't expect to show it and not have to use it.
I used my mindset of if I point a gun at someone I have every intent to shoot.
If they decide to end the encounter by departing great.
In a home protection scenario, they decided to enter your home, stay once they knew someone present, they have bad intentions and show they are a threat by these acts alone. If you point your gun you do so with every intent to shoot and hope they decide that they would prefer another address.
If not shoot to stop. Not knees but center of mass the biggest part of the body. A likely side effect of their choice may be death. But you do not intend to kill you intend to stop and if they die. So be it. The quickest way to stop the threat is to kill them.
I hope I helped and didn't scare the bejesus out of this poor girl. Or make a total ass of myself.

I Must be a Magnet for Crazy People
So not too long ago I posted about my encounter at the Starbucks.
Today I had another encounter with a crazy person.
I took the past few days off for some R&R (painting the house).
I had put off finishing for 9 months. I also needed to clean up my files in the dining room so I went to target for storage containers.
While checking out a odd looking guy walks in. He was off kilter enough to catch my attention as he came in the door. Of course he picks the checkout line I'm in. While the cashier is finishing scanning the stuff in the bottom of my cart, and I'm helping he puts a pack of batteries with the rest of my stuff. I tell him they are not mine and ask him to move them. He put them on top of the credit card machine. I move them which pisses him off. He then proceeds to stand directly behind me while in trying to pay, in the exact spot I can't see him, and mutter profanity at me. I first ask him to move, then tell him he needs to move and I do not turn back around. He moved to a new register.
In the parking lot he spotted me and decided to continuously walk back and forth in the Street past my car muttering profanity at me. I watched him but ignored him. As I got in the car to crack out he moved closer but far enough that I was still able to get out of my spot.
There really was something wrong with this guy. He had the appearance of a homeless person but was clean.
And he was talking to himself the whole time he walked through the store.
I'm glad nothing escalated and I had to fight my frustration to be able to use a calm but strong tone.
The whole time I had the intent that if he touched me I was going to test the breaking strength of those little cashiers stands where the credit card machine sits.
You never know when or where crazy will strike or what it will do.
In some ways crazy is scarier than evil because at least what evil does is somewhat predictable and logical. Crazy is just that crazy, it never knows what it's going to do just that no one has any idea what's next.

New Family Member coming home on Friday
So the family will be growing by 1 sometime this weekend.
On Sunday we went and checked out a litter of new puppies and decided that one of the little ones is what our family needs.
Our new addition, a female Australian Shepherd will be ready to come home on Friday. We are planning on getting her on sat since we have a family activity planned and do not want to leave a new puppy home alone. Plus the kids would never go.
The dog serves a dual role for out family. Her bigger role will be to fill the role of a therapy dog for my oldest. For this reason the animal will be primarily hers. That is why she got the majority say in picking out which one it will be.
The other role is in general a family pet.

Flying Continental out of IAH (Advice Please)
I am searching for advice on flying out of IAH with firearms on Continental.
I am going out of town in a few weeks and am planning on travelling with firearms.
Can anyone tell me the process for checking in at IAH. They have the big island in the middle and then the old counter on the side for some special case checkins.
Advice please.

Local Range Filmed for Preppers
As was seen on Facebook.
My favorite local H'town range, Shiloh Shooting, is being filmed for Preppers. Specifically the lovely ladies instructor Tracy.
As a special offer they are offering a discount tonight for couples.
Check them out if you have the time.

This is not a paid advertisement. Not have I received any request or benefit for this post. It is just props for great people who run a great place to shoot.

SJL Houston To Put TSA on METRO
According to SJL Metro will have TSA and the POlice questioning riders and conducting random searches.
Queen Sheila Puts TSA on Metro
I ride Metro but maybe not for much longer.
The agency is in enough debt. Start harassing their ridership that has alternatives and they will hopefully loose a ton of money.
I'd love to see the brand new garage by me go empty because of this along with the other expansive park and rides in my area.
On top of this I wonder what will happen to me if I refuse to have my person or bag searched by a fake TSA employee. Or when they find out I'm legally carrying on the bus. That case has come and gone and the people have won.
SJL and the TSA can kiss my ass.

UnReady
Yesterday morning I had my eyes open to the just how unready we can be to address a situation.
Back story:
Yesterday morning I got off of the bus at my usual time o'dark in the morning, about 10 min before I'm supposed to be in the office. I cross the street and go into the big building with a Starbucks in the lobby. On the way in I notice a homeless man sitting against one of the posts. He says nothing and I walk in the building. As I sit down at a table to wait for the morning crew to finish getting ready to open I notice said homeless man walk in the door. One of the store staffers tells him he needs to leave. The Homeless man gets confrontational and the employee hollers for security. This agitates the homeless man more. He starts to head for the door and the employee turns around to go back to work. Back to the man he just had an encounter with. The homeless guy turns around and runs at the worker jumps and does a hard stomp behind the employee.
I was sitting at a table and watched this go down. For the most part it did not involve me. The part that I surprised myself with was that I did not react until the guy hit the door on the way out after his simulated attack on the employee.
I question myself on this. If he had hit him instead of just try to scare him would I have reacted or sat there in a stunned stupor. I had shifted my feet to a more responsive position but never moved.

McDonalds New Happy Meal Fries Suck
I took the kids to McDonald's today after school for lunch. I ordered the kids meal and asked for fries. Since that is what you have been having to do.
Instead they get apples and this dinky pack of fries that holds like 3 whole fries.
I went in and complained and the manager said well that's how it comes.
I told her that I asked for fries and want fries. If I wanted apples I would have asked for them. If I wanted healthy I would not have chosen McDonalds. I also said I live in TX last I looked. They need to tell New York to go to hell. That they are not responsible for the health of the nation.
If I wanted to live by Bloomberg's and New York's laws I'd move there. I fon't need a nanny I am free to choose what to feed my kids.
